Of what use are the instruments [religious practices] if they do not help one attain their goal?

About This Quote

If you've never thought about it before, it's hard to know why religious practices and rituals are important. Don't religious practices and rituals just help people attain their goals by making them feel happy and safe? Well, one of the goals of religion is to be happy and safe. When we feel happy and safe we can accomplish more, but if God makes us happy and safe for no good reason then there’s no point in being religious. There are different reasons for how religion works.

It works by making you feel good, because that's what makes you do good things. And that's what makes you feel good about yourself when you do good things, which makes you want to do more good things in the future. That's why religious practices are important.
